"This robust, impersonal visual-effects showpiece proves buoyant and unpretentious enough to offset its stew of otherwise derivative fantasy/action elements."

Danny Wilcox Frazier recently came to CMU to lead a workshop for students, introducing them to long-form documentary work (all while juggling normal work and school). Neil and I also attended the workshop, serving as assistants to Danny while also shooting alongside the students. Here's some pictures from my (ongoing) piece.
The road is a surrealist experience.  You pass by all these moments and scenes you're otherwise not privy to, all while caught up in your own head.
And the further you drive, the more you start to connect, weaving this narrative between the moment, five miles back on your right, to the scene fast approaching on your left.
The road becomes this pop-up story book, the tone set by any number of things.
The music you're listening to, or the other people in the car and the conversation you're having.
The weather, or your emotions at the time. Or what's happening on either end of the drive.
This is an archetypal narrative, as told by the road and some of the places its taken me recently.

And a quick shout out to Danny, Kent, Neil, Teresa, Zack, Taryn, Emily M., Emily B., Shannon, The Other Neil B., Daytona, Katy, Max, Kyle, Christiana and Taylor for the awesome week and great work.
